Zen and the art of manuscript revision!

So here we are now, Towering Pines Volume One has been completed for somewhere in the neighborhood of a month now and I've already done one set of revisions but they are never ending!

The first round of revisions were plot line type stuff... as I work on something, I always get small little ideas that I want to plug in or slightly alter things that are already written.  I make notes about those things and when I'm done, I go back and make the changes/additions.

That part is mostly done.

When I wrote Sands of Time, the second revision was actually not done until my editor sent me the changes.  Because the first revision was actually a huge plot shift at the last minute, I never got to go back and do a second revision before the manuscript was due!  And this time, I am doing something that I never actually did with Sands of Time -- I'm reading Towering Pines from front to back in order just like a reader would!  I read Sands of Time in blocks, looking for plot holes, filling in here and there to strengthen the story and fix grammar/spelling issues.  But, to this day, I've not read the book in its entirety from cover to cover -- is that weird?

But I'm in mid-read right now with Towering Pines and it is coming along, just very slowly.  That being said, I consider it done.  There will be no major plot revisions just some tweaks and fixes during this read through unless I find some glaring hole that I missed earlier.  So, I've started the process of querying for a new agent.  I've already got some interest -- a request for the full manuscript and a couple requests for partials.  This is very good, things are moving along.  And that means that this book will likely be out sooner rather than later!

Also, I had mentioned to a few people that I had an agent earlier in the year.  Our ideas just didn't mesh, so that's why I'm shopping this around again -- and besides the other agent was interested in a different work that I want to keep under wraps for the time being.

So wish me some peace and Zen until next time (when I'll post a nice little snippet from the book!)
