An excerpt from Winds of Change - the upcoming sequel to Sands of Time
This was both the best and worst ride from D.C. to Jersey that Emily had ever driven. I95 was a road that she generally hated and today it had a bittersweet taste to it that she had not previously experienced. The traffic still sucked, but today was the day she had officially been relieved of duty by the Director of the F.B.I. himself. Emily consoled herself by thinking it was an honor to be fired by the headcheese. The level of detail that he chose to go into regarding the charges being brought against her was something she could have done without. She winced as she remembered him emphasizing the words “illicit” and “completely naked” and especially when he paused right before he said “sexual intercourse while undercover with a suspect”. Emily didn’t like that. Sam Shepard was not a suspect. And that night was one of the most sensual and erotic sexual experiences she had the pleasure of enjoying. Her face unscrewed from the wince into a soft and sweet smile as the memory of Director Nelson turned into the memory of Sam Shepard’s body silhouetted by the moon coming off Barnegat Bay as he slept. It quickly turned to the memory of him discovering that she was lying to him about who she was and the ensuing argument.
“Sam, I can explain.”
Sam looked at Emily standing in the doorway of the bathroom with the light spilling out into the room. Sam turned her F.B.I. identification toward her.
“You can explain? What’s to explain? You work for the F.B.I. and you aren’t a lawyer. Or are you? And all the crap about your husband? You used me! And you used my dead with to lure me in.” Sam’s glare cut through Emily and made her feel like a real piece of crap. But he wasn’t done yet. “Okay, I was wrong, I guess I do need an explanation. Explain to me how someone could be so cold and calculating, playing on my pain like that?”
Emily wasn’t smiling anymore. There was a time during the whole encounter three months ago that she thought she was falling for him. And she thought that she could find a way to clean up the situation. Emily thought that she could fix the whole big mess and still be with Sam. That all ended at that moment. And now because of that wonderful moment in time with the handsome Sam Shepard at the hotel on the bay. Because for that moment she allowed herself to lose sight of who she was and where she was going, she was no longer Special Agent Emily Noble. Now she was simply Emily Noble.
Sands of Time is currently available via all major outlets including Amazon.Com, Borders, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords.Com.
