In 2025, the Kansas City Royals are looking to make another surprise push into the post-season a la 2024! In 2025, they’re not just hanging around, the boys in blue are making noise. The additions of guys like Mike Yastrzemski and Randal Grichuck have served to solidify the veteran presence on the team, Bobby Witt Jr. remains the superstar centerpiece of this Royals resurgence. But just like in 2024 when injuries hit the team in August, it is clear that Vinnie Pasquantino is the co-star Kansas City needs to keep this playoff dream alive.

⚾ A Two-Man Tandem to Watch

Witt Jr. has dazzled all year with his mix of power, speed, and elite defense. But every leading man needs a reliable guy to be his wingman, and Pasquantino has stepped up in a major way in the second half of the season.

Since the All-Star break, Pasquantino has been on an absolute tear, slashing:

  • .233 AVG / .309 OBP / .592 SLG / .900 OPS

  • 12 home runs and 33 RBI in just 31 games

  • A team-high .592 SLG and .900 OPS since the break

Yes, the batting average has dipped, but that’s deceiving. A brutal .176 BABIP in the second half is masking just how impactful his contact has been. He’s barreling balls, launching home runs, and creating instant offense.

This isn't just a hot streak, it’s a shift in offensive identity. Pasquantino has gone from a balanced contact hitter to a legitimate middle-of-the-order thumper, one that pitchers have to think twice about what they will do with Pasquatch.

📊 Complementary Skillsets

What makes this pairing so compelling is the contrast in offensive profiles:

  • Witt Jr. brings dynamic speed, gap power, and elite base running.

  • Pasquantino brings patient plate discipline, raw left-handed power, and a veteran approach.

Where Witt is electric, Pasquantino is calculated. Witt beats you with chaos; Pasquantino beats you with damage.

Together, they force pitchers to pick their poison. Walk Witt? Pasquantino will punish you. Pitch to Witt? He might take third before the next pitch is thrown. This 1-2 combo is everything a playoff-caliber lineup needs, explosiveness and power, speed and thump, flash and force. Add to that the resurgence of Salvador Perez in the past month, and the Royals suddenly have offense.

🔥 Heating Up at the Right Time

Pasquantino’s five-game HR streak in early August tied a Royals franchise record and sent a clear message: the Royals are no longer a one-man show. That power surge turned close games into wins and helped the Royals rattle off a five-game win streak — the kind of run that teams need in tight wild card races.

And it’s not just about the bat. Vinnie’s experience, calm presence, and leadership by example are stabilizing forces for a young team learning to win under pressure.

🏁 The Final Stretch

If the Royals are serious about making the playoffs — and they are — they’ll need more than Witt’s MVP-caliber campaign. They’ll need clutch home runs. They’ll need left-handed balance in the lineup. They’ll need someone who’s not afraid of the moment.

They’ll need Vinnie Pasquantino.

So as the calendar flips toward September and every pitch gets magnified, keep your eyes on No. 9 in Royal blue. Because while Bobby Witt Jr. is the franchise cornerstone, Vinnie Pasquantino might just be the guy who gets them over the hump.
